Oyster Sukha Masala Goan Style

This is my Mother's  recipe  and one of my  favourites. With oysters you can come up with different types of dishes like in Goa we prepare Oyster Garam Masala curry, Oysters in Coconut curry and  fried Oysters in rava batter-the same way as we fry fish.

Oyster Sukha Masala- Goan Style

Ingredients:

Fresh Oysters 16 Fl. OZ.

2 Medium Onions finely chopped

1 small tomato

1 teaspoon Garam masala powder

1/2 teaspoon red chilly powder

1/4 teaspoon tumeric powder

1-2 green chillies chopped

1 teaspoon oil

1/2 grated fresh coconut
salt to taste

finely chopped cilantro for garnishing

Method:
  • Examine and remove any shell from the Oysters and wash them before use.
  • Add oil in a pan and Sauté chopped onion until translucent.
  • Add chopped tomato and stir fry for sometime.
  • Add all the spices- tumeric powder, garam masala and red chilly powder and mix well.
  • Add the cleaned oyster, as you cook the oysters the juices from it will ooze out and you will be left with shrunken oysters.
  • when almost 3/4th of the liquid is evaporated add grated coconut, green chillies and salt.
  • Cook further till all the liquid is absorbed .
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro .
  • Serve hot with rice or bread.
Note:
The same preparation can be made using Shrimps instead of Oysters.
One can also prepare clams sukha using the above recipe, but  substitute dried kokam /dry raw mango instead of tomato and in addition add a bit of water so as to cook the clams.

Kavita, sea food is my mom n my daughter's fave! Loved to see oyster here!
(Pls note u may use fresh cream too and it tastes great, as for pastry it surely blends well. We liked it better without the icing, its light in texture too..doesn't go dense, use the right baking tin, size wise to obtain good results.)
